Locally, the move to EVs will shift China’s energy demands away from imported petroleum sources to dirty, but indigenous, coal. The country is already estimated to emit over 10 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. Increasing China’s demand for coal-fired electricity is surely not the way to reduce global carbon dioxide emissions.
