Every year, a staggering 500,000 tonnes of tyres in Australia reach the end of their road, and shockingly, only a mere 15 per cent of these materials are currently being repurposed in Australia. The rest are either exported overseas as fuel replacements or are stockpiled, dumped, or landfilled, contributing to an environmental challenge of immense proportions.
Manufacturing defects are deviations from the intended design of a product that appear during the production process. It is critical for manufacturers to minimize the risk of defects and ensure a smooth returns management process for when defective products do end up in the hands of the customer. What is a manufacturing defect? A manufacturing […] The post Manufacturing Defects – Types, Examples, and Tips appeared first on Blog for Manufacturers and Distributors.

MQTT seems to be still growing as a favorite light-weight data transport for industrial data. HiveMQ , whom I had a chance to chat with briefly at the Inductive Automation ICC event in September, has released a new MQTT product. HiveMQ Data Hub, an integrated policy engine within the HiveMQ broker designed to enforce data integrity and quality, helps to detect and manage distributed data and misbehaving MQTT clients with the ability to validate, standardize, and manipulate data in motion.
UK rollout of connected and automated mobility (CAM) technology poised to deliver annual economic benefit as high as £66 billion by 2040, major new report shows. Tech could help save 3,900 lives and prevent 60,000 serious accidents – while adding 342,000 additional jobs, with 12,250 directly in automotive manufacturing by 2040. British public to benefit from potentially lower insurance premiums, less stressful commutes and greater freedom for those with restricted mobility, while businesses coul

The world of manufacturing is evolving—and so must the factories that drive it. This eBook reveals five transformative strategies that can help manufacturers gain a lasting competitive edge. Through insights from aerospace leaders, energy innovators, and the factories of tomorrow, we show how manufacturers are moving beyond traditional approaches. From building smarter, adaptable systems to embracing iterative design and fostering resilient cultures, these strategies are shaping the future of pr
I don’t do “Top 10 Trends for Next Year” articles. I find them worthless. I do observe and ask questions. Part of these questions were spurred by these two news items about Arduino , that open source inexpensive hardware platform. I also have a news item following about a similar technology—the Raspberry Pi. Consider these hardware platforms. Consider also that many new engineers will be entering the industry with the wish to use tools such as Python and NodeRED.
Canadian manufacturing continued in contraction territory this October. The seasonally adjusted S&P Global Canada Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) remained below the crucial 50.0 no-change mark in October for a sixth successive month. With the PMI rising to 48.6, from 47.5 and a three-month high, the rate of contraction was weaker than the previous months.
Andøya Spaceport will be used to launch satellites from European commercial space company Isar Aerospace (IA). When fully constructed, the facility will host several launch pads, with IA gaining exclusive access to the first launch site, which was built to its specifications. It includes a launch pad, payload integration facilities and a mission control centre.
Mitsubishi Electric Automation Inc. will be exhibiting at ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2023 at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix. As automation continues to evolve, the demand for smarter, more integrated solutions will only grow. The Accuride FULLELECTRIC® is a new approach to powered linear motion that represents the next evolution in system design. By integrating compact electric actuators directly into Accuride's industry leading drawer slides, this approach addresses the pain points of traditional systems while delivering reliable performance.
I’m not a fan of most of these analyst market surveys. This metaverse news from GlobalData seems to have a bit of being out of sync. I do agree with the analyst’s views, but the market forecast does not seem to go along with the analysis. GlobalData states, “The metaverse, a virtual world where users share experiences and interact in real-time within simulated scenarios, will face an uphill path ahead as limited use cases hamper its adoption.
Fabricators walking the FABTECH show floor this year were on the hunt for autonomous software and machines that could help them make best use of the talented employees they have.

Manufacturing is evolving, and the right technology can empower—not replace—your workforce. Smart automation and AI-driven software are revolutionizing decision-making, optimizing processes, and improving efficiency. But how do you implement these tools with confidence and ensure they complement human expertise rather than override it? Join industry expert Andrew Skoog as he explores how manufacturers can leverage automation to enhance operations, streamline workflows, and make smarter, data-dri
My second news item on Generative AI involves Microsoft dancing with Rockwell Automation. Once again an industrial automation company hopes its software will become more responsive and easier to use with AI. I’d love to know what you all think after trying it. Rockwell Automation and Microsoft Corp. Announced October 26, 2023 an extension of their longstanding relationship to accelerate industrial automation design and development through generative artificial intelligence (AI).
As robots can't replicate human intuition and creativity, the future of manufacturing lies in integrating them with connected workers to achieve efficiency and innovation.
The company formerly known as Twitter has valued its equity at $45 a share in an internal note sent to employees, Fortune has reported. The amount is significantly less than then $54.20 per share Elon Musk paid for it upon his acquisition in 2022. X had previously offered employees stock in March at a $20bn (£16.4bn) valuation. The company’s new value was probably estimated using a 409A valuation, the independent assessment method recommended by the Internal Revenue Service for private firms.

Oh, how short-lived was the metaverse hype. Generative AI quickly displaced it with seemingly more staying power. I have made a little use of that technology for research. You really must phrase your questions precisely. There are too many nuances to the meanings of words. However, I have two pieces of news about Microsoft partnering with its Generative AI with industrial software companies.
