North American robot orders decline in 2023, A3 report finds

A recent Association for Advancing Automation (A3) report finds that robot sales in North American declined by 30 percent in 2023 after record orders in the two previous years. Companies purchased 31,159 robots in 2023, compared to 44,196 ordered in 2022 and 39,708 in 2021.

These 2023 robot orders were divided almost equally among automotive (15,723 robots sold) and non-automotive companies (15,436 robots sold).

North American companies ordered fewer robots in the first quarter of 2023 than for the same period last year. During Q1, non-automotive orders in consumer goods, semiconductor & electronics, plastics & rubber, life sciences/pharmaceutical/ biomedical, metals, and others purchased 3,519 robots, down 42% over Q1 2022.
