MR Toub Training Course on Silicone Elastomers Begins Jan. 30.
Four-day instructional, in-person workshop beginning at the end of January provides a comprehensive overview of injection molding silicone elastomers.

From Jan. 30 – Feb. 2, 2024, MR Toub Training is presenting “Silicone Elastomers Technology And Fabrication,” a four-day university-accredited course that offers a comprehensive overview of silicone elastomers. It will be taking place at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona at the Kellog West Conference Center & Hotel from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day, and is available for individuals with all skill levels.
This course emphasizes fabrication processes in injection molding liquid silicone rubber (LIM/LSR) and provides information on extrusion and calendering of high-consistency silicone rubber (HCR). The class is formatted to show, from beginning to end, the sequence of designing and fabricating with silicone rubber. Featured within this course is a one day “field trip” to M.R. Mold & Engineering during which attendees will experience LSR molding and tool design.
Topics covered will include:
- Material selection (LSR and HCR) and an introduction to the proper silicone rubber for the application.
- Tool design considerations including virtual simulation techniques in LSR design.
- Pump, press, calendar and extruder design for peak performance.
- The injection molding process including machine setup and operation of pumps and automation.
- Secondary processes such as post-cure and de-flashing with special subjects such as optical silicone molding, and overmolding in bonding to plastics and metals.
Instructors will include John Timmerman from Poly-Nova Technologies; Bob Pelletier of Elmet North America Inc.; M.R. Mold & Engineering’s Rick Finnie; Rick Ziebell from R.D. Abbott Co.; Stefan Scheibner of Arburg Inc.; and Robert Jovingo from ShinEtsu Silicones.
This course is meant to offer answers to any questions regarding silicone fabrication. Course participants will learn what silicone is and why it is so important to so many industries; why the product design and material selection are so important; how to design for manufacturing with silicon; what equipment is needed; and how to process the material to have a successful project.
