Triple Threat: How One Shop's Success Resonates Across Three End Markets

When I revisited Eden Tool and Eden Manufacturing in New Freedom, PA, this past summer for a follow-up feature on this mold builder’s growth, I underestimated the story. Not only did I learn this small medical mold builder was getting into production molding (and not just by adding a press but constructing a whole new building!), but they were also stepping into Swiss machining work.
This is a trend I’m seeing lately across the moldmaking community – not only are mold builders diversifying into different end markets to expand their customer base, they are also diversifying their capabilities. So, I thought what a cool story – one reader featured in three Gardner Business Media brands in the same month: MMT, PT and PM.
- Eden Tool and Eden Manufacturing: A Story of Resilience, Growth and Innovation: This critical parts manufacturer, founded on solid tooling fundamentals, didn’t get derailed with the unexpected passing of the owner because leadership was already building a solid business, not just a good tool shop. Here’s how they managed change incrementally… and they’re not finished yet.
-
Scaling New Heights With Vertical Integration: Eden Manufacturing was founded on a vision of vertical integration, adding advanced injection molding capabilities to a base of precision moldmaking and more recently bringing Swiss-type machining capabilities in-house.
-
Moldmaker Finds Value in Swiss-Type Machining: This multifaceted manufacturer has added CNC sliding-headstock turning technology to complement its established mold tooling production and new injection molding capabilities as it continues to pursue complex medical work along a vertically integrated path.
Precision, quality, complexity, technology, leadership, and culture all come to mind when I think of Eden Tool and Eden Manufacturing. However, what stays with me about this mold builder is the perseverance of Dave Tomic and Jake Eden … the whole team, really. They’ve been through a lot over the past few years, including the unexpected passing of Jake’s father Mike (who was also the founder of Eden Tool).
The team came together (for Mike) and accelerated their growth strategy. It’s quite impressive! It's been over 25 years since I started covering this industry, and stories like Eden's remind me why I'm still inspired by our readers.
