The Queensland government is calling on local manufacturers to participate in a series of LEAN manufacturing workshops, which will be held in different parts of the state.

Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing Glenn Butcher said the two-day seminars will zero in on helping manufacturers understand LEAN principles and how they can apply them in business to drive profit and growth.

LEAN tools are aimed at helping businesses increase productivity, improve quality, and encourage employee engagement while minimising waste and reducing business costs.

The workshops will be held in collaboration with TXM Lean Solutions, a specialist consulting business that seeks to help companies achieve operational excellence through implementing lean thinking.

The effort seeks to provide an opportunity to learn about LEAN thinking and gain fresh insights into how to overcome challenges, increase business sustainability, and improve business operational performance.

Participants will also be involved in the assessment of the cultural, leadership, and business maturity within business operations, the Queensland government said in a media release.

Butcher said the workshops are aimed at providing practical ways of thinking to deliver opportunities for small business owners to execute their growth strategies.

The minister said manufacturing adds more than $20 billion a year to Queensland’s economy, describing Queensland manufacturers as “among the best in the world.”

“To grow and remain competitive as an industry, we need to help businesses work smarter, not harder, and that’s where these workshops can really help,” Butcher added.

“Looking ahead we know that there is a growing demand to manufacture products here in Australia, and Queensland businesses are well-positioned to capitalise on that growth,” said TXM Lean Solutions spokesperson Ron Spiteri.

“The key to realising these growth opportunities is being more efficient and smarter about where you invest your time and money in your business,” Spiteri noted.

The workshops cost $50 per person and will run until 2 December.
