Air compressor manufacturer ELGi Equipments Australia has enhanced the energy efficiency of its AB series oil-free screw air compressors, resulting in lower specific power consumption and greater free air delivery across the range.

For additional energy savings, the three larger versions in the range now have a super-premium efficiency IE4 motor as standard, the company said in a news release.

The water-injected AB ‘Always Better’ line of oil-free screw air compressors from ELGi, available from 11 to 110 kW, also delivers certified “Class 0” high-quality air in accordance with ISO 8573-1 and ISO 8573-7.

ELGi pointed out that contaminant-free and high-quality compressed air that meets the stringent requirements of ISO 8573-1 “Class 0” standards is critical for many sensitive applications in a wide range of industries, including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and medical, and electronics.

The performance of the AB series models has also recently been improved by ELGi, resulting in gains in both specific power usage and free air supply.

This includes an overall turndown ratio improvement of 10 per cent on average for variable frequency drives (VFDs), the company revealed.

The Sydney-based manufacturer said that the 75 to 110 kW models are the first in the series to now have super-premium efficiency IE4 motors as standard equipment.

These motors meet the current Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) of Australia and New Zealand for three-phase electric motors.

Along with improved energy economy and dependability, ELGi said these motors also have a higher service factor and less waste heat production.

In addition to the benefits that the recent upgrades offer, customers can anticipate lower life cycle costs and fewer maintenance requirements with the AB series as compared to current technologies.

In terms of carbon footprint, ELGi said the AB series has a free air delivery (FAD) range of 0.82 to 15.85 m3/min and produces high-quality air that is free of microbiological pollutants.
