Yaskawa completes new plant for manufacturing mounting boards and electronic units in China

Yaskawa Electric, parent company of Yaskawa Mechatronics, one of the world’s largest industrial robot makers, has completed a new plant in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, in China.

The facility has already begun the mass production of mounting boards for servo amplifiers and AC drives as well as electronic units for robot control panels used in its production bases in China.

Yaskawa says that, in China, economic activities are currently “stagnant” because of Covid-19 but demand for factory automation at production sites is increasing due to labor shortages caused by the low birth rate and ageing population, rising labor costs, and the risk of coronavirus spreading.

Also, in line with China’s domestic growth strategy, demand is expected to expand in a wide range of fields, including electric vehicle-related, 5G-related, and environment-related infrastructure investments designed to reduce carbon neutrality, semiconductors, and general industrial markets.

The new plant will supply major components such as mounting boards and electronic units for use at the Group’s production bases in China, strengthening the supply chain in China.

Yaskawa aims to accelerate improvements in productivity and quality by building a production system that implements our solution concept i³-Mechatronics.

In addition, Yaskawa plans to expand production models to further strengthen our capability to respond to customer needs and enhance its proposal capabilities of i³-Mechatronics, thereby improving customer satisfaction and contributing to the growth and development of its Chinese subsidiary.

Yaskawa held a completion ceremony on site (pictured above) to mark the start of operations at the new plant. The ceremony was attended exclusively by relevant parties in light of the Covid-19 in China, but all members “shared goals for further development in the future”, says the company.
