GreenPower’s all-electric Type-A bus hits US roads for first time

GreenPower’s Nano BEAST Type A all-electric ADA compliant school bus
SOUTH CHARLESTON — GreenPower Motor Company Inc. has announced the deployment of the first purpose-built Type A, all-electric, zero-emission, ADA-compliant school bus in Clay County.
The company says this marks its first deployment of the Type A in the United States.
GreenPower also says the Nano BEAST will make its first school run on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022.
“Clay County Schools is excited to be the first school district to utilize GreenPower’s all-electric Nano BEAST school bus with ADA capabilities,” said Joe Paxton, superintendent of Clay County Schools in a statement.
“We are constantly searching for new technologies to improve our district and experience for our students. We look forward to being a part of this project and the multitude of benefits of an all-electric fleet to come.”
GreenPower president Brendan Riley also commented that the company and its partner Constellium have developed a full monocoque structure, adding that the passenger compartment features a flat floor to help ensure accessibility for wheelchairs and improve legroom.
Riley also noted that the GreenPower design has a higher passenger floor designed to help keep students out of the typical crash zone.
Configured for up to 18 passengers with one wheelchair position and 14 passengers with two wheelchair positions, the Nano BEAST features the BraunAbility wheelchair lift and the preferred Q’Straint wheelchair securement system.
The Nano BEAST is designed to facilitate battery back placement and weight distribution, a factor the company says should help accommodate a larger energy supply and deliver a longer range.
The company says this model has had more than 300 deliveries across North America.
