Serta Simmons files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Mattress maker Serta Simmons Bedding LLC has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to restructure its debt. The move by the Doraville, Ga.,-based company will reduce its funded debt from $1.9 billion to $300 million through an agreement with key financial stakeholders, the company said in a Jan. 23 announcement. It says the arrangement, which includes access to $125 million in capital, will enable the business to continue making “critical investments” in its business and brands.
