Australian steel fabricator Beenleigh Steel Fabrications (BSF) has officially opened its new facility in Berrinba in a push to ramp up its production capacity and create new apprenticeships and traineeships.

The company has completed the construction of its new $12 million facility with the support of the Palaszczuk Government’s $175 million Jobs and Regional Growth Fund, the Queensland government revealed in a media statement.

After winning contracts for the Cross River Rail, Queen’s Wharf Terminal, and Kangaroo Point Green Bridge, Beenleigh Steel said it has already outgrown its Creastmead site.

The floor space and manufacturing capacity of Beenleigh Steel have been increased by the new contemporary, functional facility at Berrinba in Logan, the government said.

Minister for Trade and Investment Cameron Dick said the government is proud to have supported this Logan-based company’s expansion.

“Beenleigh Steel has helped create Queensland landmarks such as Suncorp Stadium, North Queensland Stadium, the Cairns Convention Centre, the Jubilee Centre and Cross River Rail,” the minister noted.

Dick emphasised that the 59 new jobs that the new facility will provide in addition to the good ripple effects it will have on the Logan neighbourhood.

“It’s especially for Logan’s young people who may be looking to start their career through a traineeship or apprenticeship in a solid trade where there will be great prospects well into the future,” the minister added.

Anthony Stoeckert, Beenleigh Steel Fabrication director,  expressed his company’s delight at moving into the new location and being fully operational.

“We’re already experiencing notable productivity gains thanks to the new, state-of-the-art equipment, and the sustainability features and extra floor space will be a game-changer for us into the future,” Stoeckert said.

The director also said the company’s team of experts have put a lot of effort into developing a strong name in the industry over the past 40 years by being creative and client-focused, aiming for their “growth trajectory to more than double into the future.”

“Logan has always been our home and we’re excited to be launching into this new phase of growth still firmly embedded in our local community,” Stoeckert noted.
