The Australian Hydrogen Council is hosting the upcoming Asia Pacific Hydrogen 2023 Summit & Exhibition in Sydney.

AHC signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sustainable Energy Council to host the event at the ICC in Sydney from 26 to 27 October 2023.

Backed by the Australia Trade and Investment Commission and the New South Wales government, the summit is expected to convene over 3,000 industry participants to advance hydrogen’s role in the energy sector of the future.

The Asia Pacific Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition will serve as the official platform for government and private sector leaders to exchange insights, showcase advancements and establish new partnerships that will accelerate the hydrogen industry scaleup in order to deliver a successful energy transition in line with 2030 and 2050 climate goals.

The SEC holds three of these events yearly, with one each in America, Europe, and Asia.

Australia will now be the leading location for the APAC Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition for years to come, AHC said in a press release.

By hosting the event, AHC seeks to highlight Australia’s commitment to becoming a major global player by 2030.

“We are pleased to bring together the Sustainable Energy Council’s network of leaders from across government and industry in Sydney and show NSW is the number one destination for investment for green hydrogen. By 2030, the green hydrogen industry can grow our gross state product by $600 million each year and by 2050 could attract up to $80 billion of investment,” says Minister for Energy Matt Kean.

Plans to build domestic hydrogen hubs in the country are now underway to foster demand and co-locate infrastructure that will underpin Australia’s world-leading export capabilities.

“The local industry and Government collaboration in securing the inaugural Hydrogen Summit for the Asia Pacific region is a great signal of intent of Australia’s ambitions to transition to a renewable energy superpower, placing Sydney alongside global hydrogen cities like Rotterdam and Washington DC,” advisors to the bid, business events bidding specialists BESydney CEO Lyn Lewis-Smith said.
