Ford to cut 3,000 jobs

Effective Sept. 1, Ford Motor Co. will lay off about 3,000 white-collar and contract employees in the U.S., Canada, and India to cut costs as it makes a long-range transition to electric vehicles, reports The Wall Street Journal.

An email signed by Executive Chair Bill Ford and Chief Executive Jim Farley and viewed by The Wall Street Journal said Ford is redeploying resources to support new technologies, such as developing advanced software for its vehicles.

Earlier this year, Ford divided into two divisions: one focused on EVs and one on gas-engine vehicles.
