Victoria has unveiled its advanced aviation technologies at the Australian International Airshow, exhibiting the latest electric aircraft, aerial taxis, and cargo drones developed by the government’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) hub.

Minister for Trade and Investment Tim Pallas showcased the hub’s innovations at the Avalon Airport, including the latest zero-emission aircraft designed to provide quiet, quick, and cost-effective options for moving freight and people.

The AAM display hub provides an opportunity for Avalon Airshow visitors to get a glimpse of next-generation technology aimed at boosting local jobs in the industry and reducing emissions.

In a press release, the Victorian government said AAM and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft technology is developing quickly and is serving a wide variety of industries and Victorian companies are leading the charge.

Swoop Aero, a Port Melbourne-based aviation company, manufactures cutting-edge drones with 3D printing. Its products have delivered over 1.3 million medical items in Australia, Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Meanwhile, Kite Magnetics recently launched the world’s most powerful air-cooled 120kW electric motor for electric aircraft.

“Businesses like Swoop Aero and Kite Magnetics are showing the way in Victoria and we’ll work with the community and the Commonwealth to develop a safe, reliable and sustainable industry,” Minister Pallas said.

A Deloitte Access Economics report said the introduction of an AAM sector could lead to the growth of Victoria’s gross state product by approximately $2.8 billion over the next 20 years and create 1,300 jobs annually.

The Victorian Labor government released Victoria’s AAM Industry Statement in 2022. The state is also part of a coalition aimed at fostering the development of the AAM sector, along with the Commonwealth government, and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

Furthermore, the government is a major sponsor of the Avalon Airshow 2023, which runs from 3 to 5 March.

“This event is a major feather in Victoria’s cap – and it provides a fantastic boost to Geelong’s economy,” said Member for Lara Ella George.
