Former Western Australia Minister Clive Brown was appointed as chair of the South West Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Hub (SW AMTECH) steering group.

Brown, the former minister for state development, tourism and small business, brings to the role a strong background in industry after he served as a director of CI resources and of Phosphate Resources.

Under his new role in the steering group, Brown will provide independent advice to the government through the Minister for Regional Development, on the vision and benefits of a manufacturing hub.

He will also collaborate with key stakeholders of government, industry, and the community in unlocking the potential of the South-West’s manufacturing sector.

Brown’s appointment is part of the McGowan government’s efforts to advance manufacturing in Bunbury-Geographe.

In a media release, the WA government said the area presents a unique opportunity to establish a hub that co-locates manufacturing, research, and training that would foster innovative collaboration.

“The advanced manufacturing enterprises are hidden gems exporting high-quality manufactured goods, particularly for the mining sector, around the globe,” said Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan. “We recognise this exceptional capability could translate into something bigger, so have been working hard to advance the development of a common user hub.
