VTT develops prototype of partially 3D-printed electric motor

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has introduced a prototype of an electric motor comprising some 3D-printed components, including the ferromagnetic cores and a cable cover made of cellulose-based material.

3D printing can simplify the process of manufacturing electric motors and be used to produce motors or generators that have been technically difficult to manufacture and, therefore, not commercially profitable, the company reports.
