Nov. 17, 2023
The addition of Verve to Rockwell's portfolio complements existing solutions like FactoryTalk AssetCentre.

Rockwell Automation's recent move to acquire Verve Industrial Protection, a cybersecurity software and services company specializing in industrial environments, underscores the growing threat of cyber attacks on operational technology (OT) and industrial control systems (ICSs), Control Design reports.

A joint research report by Rockwell Automation and the Cyentia Institute reveals a significant increase in such attacks, with 60% resulting in operational disruption. As companies integrate new hardware and software into legacy equipment, the attack surface expands, creating more opportunities for cyber threats.

The acquisition aims to address these challenges by incorporating Verve's Security Center platform, designed for real-time asset inventory, vulnerability management, and risk remediation. Automation engineers will likely find this acquisition valuable as it enhances Rockwell's existing offerings, providing customers with the tools to assess assets, prioritize risks, and implement countermeasures within a unified platform, ultimately bolstering the security, safety and availability of industrial operations.
