A busy inbox for a new Prime Minister

01 September 2022 #TNB News

Next week, we will hear the result from the Conservative leadership contest and have a new Prime Minister. Whoever the successful candidate is will go about forming a new cabinet – and will have a very full inbox to deal with.

There are some big challenges ahead. The war in Ukraine is impacting supply chains and also causing an increase in on the cost of gas and electricity. Along with increases in the cost of fuel, operators face an increasingly complex and moving picture in looking at Total Cost of Ownership models and how best to invest in their fleets.

Government funding for battery electric vehicles – both commercial vehicles and buses – through either plug-in grants or ZEBRA, forms an important part in helping operators make the decision to purchase these vehicles. Clarity from the Chancellor on future funding will provide some certainty for the industry – and they will also need to tackle the challenge of inflation that has risen to a 40-year high and is expected to increase.

Looking further ahead the party political conference season is also approaching and we look forward to hearing the key policies the various parties will showcase to help the industry. It’s going to be a busy quarter.
