The ability to visualize toolpaths and check for possible collisions enables your shop to fully leverage the power of your machines.

Work Faster when Importing Tool Geometries with Tool Library

Mastercam (Tolland, CT), the world’s leading CAD/CAM software, has collaborated with Sandvik Coromant, a global industry leader and provider of manufacturing tools, machining solutions, and knowledge, to announce the integration of Sandvik Coromant’s CoroPlus® Tool Library Add-in into Mastercam 2024.

The integration of the CoroPlus Tool Library allows Mastercam’s customers to save significant time searching for desired tools and building 3D tool assemblies that can be brought directly into Mastercam. The library makes tool recommendations based on material, operation and tool type. By utilizing 3D tool models and recommended cutting data, users can optimize the machining process and achieve better results. Users of Mastercam benefit from having the correct tooling for the material and for the type of machining operation, plus an accurate, 3D model that can be used for visualization and collision checking.

Upgrade Focuses on Increased Connectivity Across the Workflow

GCTech, VericutCGTech’s (Irvine, CA) latest release of VERICUT, Version 9.4, is the industry leader in machine simulation, verification, and optimization for all types of CNC machine processes, including metal cutting. The software supports integrations with all leading CAM and tool management systems.

In addition to improvements within the core product, VERICUT 9.4 focuses on increased connectivity across the manufacturing workflow, enabling organizations to do more with the resources they already have. A new module, CNC Machine Monitoring, connects VERICUT directly to CNC machines and streams data to allow users to monitor what their machines are doing on the shop floor, live in real time. Users can see which NC program or subroutine is running, monitor machine motions and spindle activity, see if overrides have been applied to spindle or feed rates, identify when machining has been interrupted by Emergency stops or taken out of productive cycle mode, and much more.

The CNC Precheck is a new standalone application that allows machinists to ensure that key aspects of the machine setup match what was verified in VERICUT. This final precheck before machining enables differences to be identified such as NC programs that are the wrong version or contain edits, missing and/or different work or tool offsets, so these can be investigated and resolved before running the machine.

VIRTUAL Machining Optimizer Improves Toolpaths
Open Mind Technologies, CAD/CAM software
Shown is the hyperMILL Virtual Machining Optimizer with asymmetric head resulting in no collision.

OPEN MIND Technologies (Needham, MA) latest hyperMILL® CAD/CAM software suite includes VIRTUAL Machining, which provides postprocessing, and G-code simulation including a VIRTUAL Machining Optimizer, which improves toolpaths that are traditionally calculated in the CAM engine. The Optimizer also incorporates knowledge of the part model, tooling, the toolpath calculation and collision check engine, and the machine tool model (digital twins) with its physical constraints. VIRTUAL Machining Optimizer also includes improved linking logic for 5-axis table-table. The module links individual part programs by automatically calculating smooth and safe connections between a retract move and subsequent insert, including optimization of clearance planes.
