The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) the premier technical society serving the needs of the tribology and lubrication engineering business sector — is pleased to announce the release of its new white paper, Tribology and Lubrication for E-Mobility: Findings from the Second STLE Conference on Electric Vehicles.

STLE developed the 60-page white paper to capture and share findings from its Second Tribology and Lubrication for E-Mobility Conference in November 2022. The two-day hybrid event at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in San Antonio, Texas drew 30 speakers from leading companies and organizations interested in e-mobility and over 300 industry professionals from more than 20 countries. Event highlights included technical presentations, networking and panel discussions exploring the rapidly changing electric vehicle (EV) technologies.

Dr. Neil Canter, CMFS, Chemical Solutions, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and STLE technical advisor, prepared the white paper in collaboration with the 2022 STLE EV Conference Planning Committee. The white paper summarizes key findings and challenges discussed at the conference. The synopsis addresses various speaker topics, including EV lubrication challenges, efficiency and fluid test methods, the use of grease in EVs, thermal management and the development of EV formulations.

According to Canter, “STLE’s second conference on electric vehicles built on the findings from the initial conference in 2021 and demonstrates how the tribology and lubrication field is taking on the challenge of developing products that meet the requirements for operating EVs. STLE is committed to providing a forum for all constituents to come together and share their learnings to facilitate the development of lubricants and greases for use in EVs. By offering the tribology and lubrication community further opportunities to learn together, STLE hopes to advance the development of EV fluids, greases and test methods, paving the way for widespread EV adoption.”

Print and digital copies of the white paper are now available to STLE members (complimentary) and non-members ($10). Postage charges will apply for STLE members and non-members on all print copy orders. To order the white paper, click here, visit www.stle.org or call (847) 825-5536.

STLE is continuing to encourage discussions on EV fluids and greases by presenting the 2023 STLE Tribology & Lubrication for E-Mobility Conference, to be held from November 14-15 in Cleveland, Ohio (co-located with the STLE Tribology Frontiers Conference, November 12-15). The e-mobility conference will feature expert-led presentations from leading companies and organizations interested in e-mobility, panel discussions on state-of-the-art EV technologies and lubrication developments, poster sessions and networking opportunities.
