Production powers up as market faces the future

31 August 2023 #TNB News

British built commercial vehicle production is booming, with the recently announced figures for July showing an eight year high with 8,853 units rolling out of factories. The result means the industry enjoyed its busiest July since 2015, while year to date production is up by 68.0% on pre-pandemic levels, driven largely by a growth in exports.

For production, it’s been an optimistic year and that will continue as more production comes onstream in the near future. However, it is important to ensure that the UK market also grows in confidence to make the switch to zero emission vehicles. Crucial to that will be a commercial vehicle charging infrastructure plan and bringing all stakeholders together to deliver on bold ambition.

Part of that process will take place next week at CENEX-LCV, supported by SMMT. The event is the place to meet stakeholders, manufacturers, supply chain representatives and government officials who are focused on zero emission, connected and automated vehicle technology.

There is a packed conference and workshop agenda with Innovate UK delivering a workshop on Wednesday giving an update on the Battery Electric Truck Trial (BETT) which has been running an 18-month deploying twenty 19-tonne rigid electric HGVs across 9 public sector fleets around England. I look forward to hearing these results.

If you’re visiting CENEX-LCV on either Wednesday or Thursday, please pop by the SMMT stand C4-216 and 217 in Hall 4.
